Shower and thunderstorm chances will remain high into next week. Morning downpours are even expected in some cases. Have an umbrella handy. When thunder roars, go indoors. A few storms will also be capable of producing strong wind gusts.
There are two areas of interest that the National Hurricane Center is watching in the Atlantic for potential development. In the Pacific, Hawaiians are monitoring the progress of two hurricanes that will weaken as each one moves closer to their state.
Area #1 is located around Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. It only has a 10 percent chance of formation in the next five days. However, it should be one of the factors that helps to increase shower and storm chances (especially for the Florida Peninsula) as the weekend approaches.
Tropical Depression 3 dissipated off the coast of Florida this morning, but the National Hurricane Center is now monitoring another area of disturbed weather. This one is centered in the Gulf of Mexico. While current probabilities for development are only at 20 percent, it is worth watching. Chantal is the next name on the 2019 Atlantic list.
When frontal boundaries make it to the Gulf this time of year, an area of low pressure can develop that ultimately becomes a subtropical or tropical cyclone.
